As parents, we hope that the initial years of grade school are exciting and allow our children to feel successful in their academics. Early on, we recognized a strong literacy struggle in our

child, and knew we needed to find her the help she deserved. We also understood that a

dyslexic diagnosis came with significant emotional impacts on our child. When we found out that Jennifer was trained in the Orton Gillinham approach, we knew that she would be the person to support us. Jen has innate qualities in working with students that support the trifecta of emotional, social and academic needs. This last year my child visited Jen twice a week, to complete the level one support services. Now, as a fourth grader who has just completed level one in the program, my child has had her best year yet. We are witnessing her success in academics and overall school achievement, because of her support of all the needs. This is largely credited to the investment Jen has made to our child throughout this school year.

Our second child had speech delays when she was young and continually struggles in school. She works really hard but concepts don’t come easily for her and she is consistently labeled a bubble kid. She has never qualified for

any outside testing but our daughter worked with a District Learning Specialist on reading several times each week. This was very frustrating for her as after a while, several years in, she was not making the progress desired. My children attend a French language immersion school in our public school district so they learn to read in French before English. I think this, coupled with her undiagnosed learning delays made her progress extremely slow. The 2021 summer before her 5th grade year I heard Jennifer Polman was offering Orton Gilliam reading tutoring so I signed Lily and her younger brother up. Immediately, Jen started finding the holes in her understanding so she could make great progress. Jen solidified the work she had been doing in school and was able to help her over the hump. Our daughter “graduated” from the Learning Specialist reading in October 2021. Her brothers continue to work with Jen

and our daughter occasionally meets with Jen to work on fluency. All 3 enjoy spending

time with her and feel encouraged in their learning.

Jennifer is an excellent tutor/educator for many reasons. First, she does a fabulous job at

establishing a positive relationship with her students and parents. She is warm and

approachable to all. Second, she meets each of her students where they are at with their

reading levels and challenges. Jennifer does a thorough assessment and then puts together

an individual plan for each child. Third, she has done an excellent job teaching the “why”

behind some of words in the English language. She help him find creative ways to

remember certain rules. There have been a few times where our son has gone to school

and taught his class the methods he is learning from Jennifer. That is a testament in itself!
